Kyudai & Glasgow Collaboration

The University of Glasgow (U. Glasgow) is identified as a research hub in the United Kingdom for Kyudai faculty and graduate students on heritage and cultural property studies from the Asia Oceania region. It is one of the most important universities in Scotland with leading research and education programs, and a strong connection. U. Glasgow administers or collaborates with a substantial number of relevant museums, archives, and historical collections. U. Glasgow is also home to a lively community of specialists in the studies of design, museum & curatorship, performance and landscape art.

Activities during Reiwa 4 (2022) focused primarily on developing specific and impact collaborations with the University of Glasgow as well as exploring collaboration opportunities with other universities and institutions in the UK.

This goal was accomplished by conducting a hybrid three-day workshop with faculty members from various departments at Kyudai and U. Glasgow, and visits to Dundee University, Sainsbury Institute for the Studies of Japanese Art and Cultures, University of East Anglia, conducting inspiring discussions with their faculty members, researchers, and academic staff.

Moreover, public relations for Kyushu University’s international endeavors were made with the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, London.

In addition, outreach activities were conducted with institutions in New York and the US East Coast. These institutions have all advanced experiences with digital databases of their material collections and can provide valuable suggestions for similar endeavors at Kyudai.
